Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) is the largest educational nonprofit in Silicon Valley. [Computer Science] Innovate Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY

Silicon Valley Education Foundation has been partnering with school districts since 2008 to offer

direct-service classes. [CS] Innovate, [CS]I uses a curriculum written by Microsoft and curated by

our highly experienced curriculum team.


[CS]I offers programs for rising 6th-10th graders.


Why [CS] Innovate?

  • Help students prepare for high school level computer science using a unique hands-on curriculum.

  • Provide high quality instruction support with project-based learning.

  • Professional development offers new tools and strategies for Common Core teaching.

LOCATION & WORK SCHEDULE

Each class is held at a specific site determined by each district.


The 18-24-day programs will run approximately mid-June through the end of July.

Each session runs on average from 3.5-5 hours a day, but are determined by district needs.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the program with fidelity and adopt instructional practices that best address the learning needs of students. This includes providing constructive feedback to students and scoring student projects according to [CS]I rubrics.

  • Complete evaluation and data collection requirements such as administering pre and post student assessments and attitudinal surveys and a teacher post-implementation debrief.

  • Integrate technology to strengthen access to online curriculum and tools.

  • Track attendance and communicate student concerns with families and [CS]I staff as appropriate.

  • Be on campus 15 minutes before class begins and 15 minutes after.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • California Teaching Credential.

  • SVEF fingerprinting required. District-specific fingerprinting may be required.

  • Experience teaching computer science is preferred but NOT required.

  • Required proof of TB test results and fingerprinting before working with students (costs reimbursed by SVEF). District-specific fingerprinting may be required.

COMPENSATION

Middle and High School Programs (201 and 202 and 300): $6,500* ($260 daily rate)

Longer High School Programs (300): $9,750* ($325 daily rate)

*Full compensation includes fulfillment of all PL and PLC dates, daily instruction, and required logistics. (Payroll taxes apply).


Referral Bonus: Receive a $100 bonus if you and a referred teacher complete the summer program.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

1. Professional Learning

Attendance is required at all PL sessions. We will not cover transportation.

  • May 4th 8:30-2:00 pm, SVEF Office

  • May 9th, 4:00pm-6:00pm, Virtual

  • May 14th, 4:00pm-6:00pm, Virtual

  • May 18th, 8:30am-3:30pm, SVEF Office

2. Professional Learning Communities, Coaching Sessions and Asynchronistic Hours

Meet with your [CS]I coach and other teachers to sharecommon best practices. The PLC will meet once prior to the first day of class and then twice during the program
