Joe Coto

 

Assemblymember Joe Coto is currently serving his 3rd term in the California Assembly, representing the 23rd Assembly District. He represents close to 500,000 residents of San Jose, including the east side, downtown and the Monterey Road corridor of the city. His legislative agenda has been focused on making California’s schools the best in the nation and ensuring that all of California’s children have health insurance and are provided with the ability to experience the American dream. This dream includes graduating from college, securing good paying jobs, and owning a home.

Assemblymember Coto began his career as a teacher in the Oakland Unified School District. He ultimately became Superintendent of the Oakland Public schools in 1984. Four years later, he accepted the position of Superintendent of the East Side Union High School District in San Jose and served in that capacity for 14 years. He has a lifetime commitment to the advancement of all students and their families. Over the years Mr. Coto has served on numerous national and local boards and commissions over the years.
