State Superintendent of Schools Jack O'Connell topped the agenda at the last of three forums focusing on solutions to the student achievement gap. Approximately 110 educators, business, and civic leaders attended the event at Silicon Valley Community Foundation in Mountain View.
Speakers included Arun Ramanathan, Executive Director of The Education Trust; Muhammed Chaudhry, SVEF's CEO; Emmett D. Carson, S.V. Community Foundation's CEO; Manny Barbara, SVEF's Vice President, and Erica Wood, S.V. Community Foundation's Vice President.
The group provided policy suggestions and recommendations to address what business, education, and government leaders can do to narrow the wide and troubling gap between Hispanic and African-American students and their white and Asian peers. Two previous forums addressed institutional racism's role in creating the achievement gap and offered up a range of solutions to tackle the crisis. For more details click here. |
