Arturo Garcia says math is his favorite subject, but he found math tests daunting. To get better at math and prepare for eighth grade algebra, he enrolled in Stepping Up to Algebra (SUTA).
Arturo’s teacher, Michelle Leedy, said he had the most trouble with fractions and word problems. To improve, he focused on those areas and figured out what he was doing incorrectly and ultimately fixed his mistakes.
Attending the SUTA program gave Arturo the skills he needed to excel in his favorite subject and strengthened his enthusiasm for mathematics. “I am excited for math next year,” he said.
Arturo plans to attend college. In fact, he says he is going to inspire his older brother and sister to do well in school so they can also attend college.
