Stepping Up To Science

Biology Inspires Student to Become a Veterinarian

SUTAMichael Dwyer, 14, used to think science was boring. He didn’t care if he ever learned anything about science and he didn’t see how it could be useful in life.

Once he entered teacher Adam Cheadle’s Stepping Up to Science class, he changed his tune completely. “I loved studying about animals and looking at animal and plant cells under the microscope,” he said. “We did an exercise where we swabbed the inside of our mouth, made a slide of it and looked at our own cells with the microscope. That really interested me.”

“Now, I really like science. It’s fun and it made me realize that I want to study more about animals, go to college and someday become a veterinarian.”
