Alexia Huizar rose to the challenge of learning both math and science in the intensive Stepping Up to Science (STEPS) program this summer. The 13-day program prepared students like Alexia for Geometry and Physics, which Del Mar High School students are expected to take in ninth grade.
Alexia admits to struggling with math, but she has remained engaged and enthusiastic throughout the STEPS class. She knows the math and science skills she acquires will help her achieve her future goals. “I want to go to college to become a nurse. I’ve been planning to become one because I love to help people,” she said.
By attending college, Alexia hopes to achieve success in pursuing a career in nursing. And with the completion of STEPS this summer, she is well on her way to reaching her goals.
