Summer Math Program Donor Recognition (SUTA/MAP)

Silicon Valley Education Foundation, ALearn, and the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley hosted more than 100 students, parents, teachers and superintendents at our annual "Donor Recognition Event" August 26 thanking the many sponsors who support our successful summer Stepping Up to Algebra/Math Acceleration Program.

Highlight of the program was a presentation by 7th and 8th graders who told how they overcame their fear of math and learned to love fractions and rational numbers after taking the 4-week program. SVEF is especially proud of the success of this year's 1,000 students, who posted a 16%-24% proficiency gain in four testing categories. Among funders who attended were Flextronics, SAP, Target, Juniper Networks, Symantec, Hewlett-Packard, the Myra Reinhard Family Foundation and Walmart, which donated more than a dozen gift cards to students and schools.
