Did you know that Algebra I is one of the best indicators of high school and college success? Yet, less than 50% of 8th graders are proficient in the Algebra I California Standards Test (CST).
Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) focuses on raising student performance in the critical areas of math and science. Our Stepping Up To Algebra Plus (SUTA+) program provides out-of-class time support to help students successfully complete Algebra I.
Join us to help students gain skills and confidence in math. Our SUTA+ program runs 2 Saturdays a month 9 am - 12 pm in 18 school districts throughout Silicon Valley. This is a great opportunity for corporations and community members to volunteer individually or in a team to make a difference in a student’s life.
As a volunteer, your responsibilities may include:
Ask: Jennifer Li
“It’s important for our profession to give back to the community and make sure kids learn in a way that will engage them.” - Germaine Coto, Ernst & Young
“I like helping these students conquer this important topic because Algebra influenced me to go into engineering.” - Scott Peterson, LSI
“Just having an extra set of eyes and ears in the classroom - it makes a difference.” - Mike Barbara, SUTA Teacher
“It’s nice knowing that when I raise my hand, I don’t have to wait for my teacher to get my questions answered.” - Pedro Monrreal, 8th grader
